This is the oldest Edinburgh Festival Fringe venue constantly in operation for 40 years and it is a firmly established landmark on the Fringe goers' map. It is situated in the centre of town, parallel to George Street, a few minutes walk from the Assembly Rooms, New Town Theatre and the International Book Festival.
Hill Street is wholeheartedly dedicated to solo performances, the fastest growing genre in the Performing Arts known in different cultures as Monodrama, One Person Show or One Actor’s Theatre. We programme solo work; drama, physical theatre and dance that are character-based and narrative driven and just happens to be for one performer.
We create three performance spaces during the Fringe.
A comfortable intimate performance space on the third floor, ideal for small to medium scale productions with up to 100 partly-raked seating. End on stage 5m by 5.5m and with 4m clearance. The changing room is next to the stage.
A flexible black box space on the second floor, measuring 9m x 6m with up to 60 seats, which can be set up according to needs. The changing room is next to the room via a short corridor.
A flexible space on the first floor, a panelled and mirrored room, measuring 5.5m x 4m with up to 25 seats with small performing area suitable for storytelling.
